You may browse the library, read newspapers and magazines, use the computers or the wireless internet access without a library card; however, you MUST have a library card to check out any library materials.
With a library card, you also gain access to all the library’s electronic services.
- How do I get a library card?

Library cards are free, just ask for an application at the front desk.
You MUST PRESENT:
- Photo ID AND proof of current address
- Two references not at the same address as you. One may be an employer
Parents must apply on behalf of their children under the age of 18 years.

It only takes a few minutes to sign up at the library.
- Does checking out a book cost anything?

Elk City Carnegie Library cards are free to residents of the trade area so that items checked out and returned on time are free. Our paperback exchange is a one-for-one trade. Items provided through InterLibrary loan do have a mailing fee reimbursement.
- What if I lose my library card?

Be sure to notify the library if your card is lost or stolen to limit your liability against unauthorized use. A replacement card costs $3.00.
- How long can I keep the items I check out?

All circulating library material is available to check out for 2 weeks. Fines are accrued on books, audio books, and magazines at .10 per day; .50 per day for videos.
- Can I renew the checked out items?

Yes, unless another customer has requested the item or if the item is 30 days overdue.
- Can I renew online or by phone?

You may renew online by e-mailing library@elkcity.com or you can call the library at (580) 225-0136.
- I lost/damaged an item. What do I do?

If an item can no longer be circulated due to loss or damage, you will be charged a replacement cost of the item. You will not be held responsible for normal wear and tear.
- Does the library offer free Internet?

Yes. The library has 13 public use computers in the Adult Library in addition to 2 public use computers and 4 AWE Learning computers in the Youth Library (for childrens use ages 2-10). All computers will be shut down 10 minutes prior to closing. Parents and children must read the rules and regulations of the Internet Use Policy and sign in at the front desk each time they use the computers.
There is no cost to use the computers and no library card is required.
Wireless Access:
The library offers wireless internet access for those who have wireless devices. It is an open network and does not require a password. Wireless access is available 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily inside and on the grounds of the library.
- Can I print or copy materials?

Yes, and there are fees required.
Fee Schedule:
- Black/White copies – 25 cents per page
- Color copies – 50 cents per page
The library charges for ALL pages printed.
- Are services offered for visually-impaired or handicapped?

Services include ADA facility large print collection and audio books.

We may be able to borrow from another library. Ask us about our interlibrary loan service. Charges for return postage required.
