The Elk City Police Department Citizen’s Academy is designed to educate the citizens of Elk City about the structure and duties of their police department. While this is not a certified training class it is an informational opportunity for a behind the scenes look at the Elk City Police Department.
The goal of this academy is to promote open channels of communications between the citizens and their police department, and develop a better understanding of the role police play in the community. The object is not to make police officers out of the graduates but make better informed citizens with a more accurate knowledge of the many responsibilities and functions the police department is tasked to do.
This weekly class beginning on March 13 th from 6PM to 9PM and meeting every Thursday for 10 weeks. The academy participants will utilize hands on training, with a variety of topics such as patrol, criminal investigations, traffic, crime scenes, officer use of force, officer safety, and crime prevention.
Any persons wishing to participate will have to fill out an application and pass a background check prior to being selected. Because portions of the Citizens Academy are hands on class size will be limited. Applications will be accepted until February 28 th.
